Jason May

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Bawamarra Cultural Services

Jason May is a proud Wiradjuri man from the Binjang clan, father of five, cultural leader, and trauma-responsive mentor. He is the Founder of Bawamarra Cultural Services and Reconciliation Officer for Wests Group and the Newcastle Knights. Jason’s work is grounded in healing—drawing from lived experience, 12+ years of recovery, and culturally responsive practice to support Indigenous youth navigating complex trauma, disconnection, and systemic injustice.

Through Bawamarra and the Buwanha Mentoring Program, Jason delivers one-on-one and small group mentoring, cultural consultation, and holistic coaching built on Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB), Dadirri, and relational accountability. His approach centres identity, integrity, and deep cultural reconnection.

Jason is a national voice for healing leadership, systems change, and culturally safe support for mob in Out-of-Home Care, justice, education, and health. His leadership is not performative—it’s embodied, relational, and built on truth-telling, compassion, and a deep commitment to future generations.
