Andrew Lockyer is an Arrernte and Luritja man, who was born and raised in and around the Mbantua (Alice Springs) region. Andrew has had many years of lived experience working with, for, and through Aboriginal peoples and communities. Andrew is fluent in his grandfather’s language, western Arrernte. Andrew has been working with young Aboriginal people, in the youth justice system for the last ten years, providing support, mentoring and cultural knowledge to incarcerated young people across the Northern Territory (NT). Andrew has worked with various stakeholders and the NT Government to find better outcomes for young Aboriginal people going through the NT’s youth justice systems. Andrew currently works at the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency in the Indigenous Throughcare program, which provides wholistic support services to incarcerated adults in the NT. Andrew also provides cultural awareness sessions to various stakeholders and is a cultural mentor to many.
